SENIOR INTERNSHIP FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH FLORIDA
During the Fall of 2019, I was able to serve as an intern at Nuevision, Inc. This is a Spanish-oriented production studio in Jacksonville, Florida that broadcasts on air, on YouTube, and on Roku TV.
On a day-to-day basis, I was designated various tasks throughout the internship. One of which was directing and producing live programs in the studio. Their modern facility features various robotic equipment, like the Sony PTZ Camera System that allows the technical director (TD) to also operate cameras remotely. The technical director also operates and controls cameras, effects, text, and output using the NewTek Tricaster Mini video switcher. Using this equipment, I was able to act as camera operator, TD, director, and producer all at the same time. As I pursue a Communication degree from the University of North Florida, I am also able to expand my production company with networks such as FOX, ESPN, and CBS. From astronaut training in Russia for Xploration Outerspace to producing live broadcasts for ESPN's College Gameday, I am very satisfied with my career in video production.
I combined my passions for science and video production to create "The STEM," a YouTube documentary series that adventurously explores modern space and science. I hope to continue creating these documentary films and am now pursuing my goal of directing the first major motion picture in space. I also did a lot of field work. Using my previous experiences in broadcast journalism and production, I was tasked with creating story packages of many local Hispanic events. This was a challenge, as I do not speak Spanish, and learned to communicate and create content effectively. This included working with anchors or hosts that were not fluent in English, and learning Spanish production terms that I could use in both packaged and live settings.
Along with video production, I also began pursuing in-depth graphic design at the internship. I utilized Adobe Creative Cloud software like Photoshop and Illustrator to create engaging motion graphics and stills. Some of which included show opens and event flyers. |
